Rotating Packed Bed Absorbers

ANTICO HiGee™ is an advanced gas–liquid absorption system that uses centrifugal force generated by a rotating packed bed to dramatically intensify mass transfer rates compared to conventional packed columns. The working principle involves liquid being fed to the inner radius of a rotating packed bed and flowing outward under centrifugal force while gas flows inward counter-currently through the packing, creating extremely high gas–liquid contact intensity. The system includes a rotating packed bed rotor, motor, housing, gas and liquid feeds, and discharge arrangements. The centrifugal acceleration can be 10–1000 times gravity, resulting in mass transfer coefficients one to three orders of magnitude higher than conventional contactors. This process intensification enables drastic reduction in equipment size, height of transfer unit, and liquid hold-up. ANTICO HiGee™ is ideal for rapid absorption of highly soluble gases, fast reactive absorption, and space-constrained industrial installations. The compact footprint and high mass transfer efficiency make it particularly valuable for offshore platforms and retrofit applications.
